This is a beautiful sheet of 4 stamps, issued in 2012 in Central Africa, honoring Leopold Sedar Senghor (1906-2011). The stamps each feature an image of Senghor, the Senegalese poet, politician, and cultural theorist who for two decades served as the first president of Senegal, and who is regarded by many as one of the most important African intellectuals of the 20th century. The sheet and stamps also feature images of butterflies, including the Southern White Admiral (Limenitis reducta), the Paper Kite (Idea leuconoe), and the Common Buckeye (Junonia coenia).
