This is a beautiful sheet of 3 stamps, issued in the Republic of Guinea in 2012, celebrating the 500th anniversary of the birth of the cartographer Gerard Mercator (1512-1594). The sheet features images of maps, including the Mercator projection world map, which allowed navigators to sail across the entire ocean on approximately straight paths. The stamps each feature an image of Mercator and ships, set against a background of world maps. The sheet is Michel catalog #9063-5, and is Post Office fresh, mint never hinged, and F/VF.
